Fans of the classic sitcom Cheers will see a very familiar framed print of Geronimo when they peruse the catalog for our upcoming Legends: Hollywood and Royalty auction. The screen-matched print hung on the wall in the seating area behind the bar where everybody knows your name for seven seasons of the beloved series, which aired on NBC from 1982 to 1993.
The print originally hung in the dressing room of Nicholas Colasanto, who played bartender “Coach” Ernie Pantusso in the show’s first three seasons. After he died in 1985, his character died as well, and the piece was moved to the show’s main set. It can be seen throughout the series, beginning in its fourth season. In the last moments of the touching series finale, Sam Malone (Ted Danson) straightens the picture while closing the bar for the last time.
Julien’s Auctions has sold many props and decorative pieces from iconic sitcom sets, including the original prop genie bottle used on the set of I Dream of Jeannie (we did not test it to see if Jeannie was still living inside); a framed “Monk’s Café” dollar-bill prop from Seinfeld, as seen hanging on the wall at the show’s New York City coffee shop; a bust of Sherman Helmsley as George Jefferson from the Jeffersons episode “George’s Legacy,” in which George aims to preserve his legacy by commissioning a bust of himself as a Greek God, which everyone around him thinks is hilarious; and an original jewelry box from Rose Apothecary, David and Patrick’s store on Schitt’s Creek.
To many pop culture fans, the set of a cherished sitcom is like a second home. If you want to surround yourself with some TV Land treasures, including the Cheers Geronimo print, check out our Legends: Hollywood and Royalty auction, which begins September 6th.
